28th February, 1938.

Hon. Mr. N. 1. Smith, C.M.G., Colonial Secretary,

HỒNG KÔNG.

Sir,

S.S. "ASIAN".

Reverting to our letter of the 21st instant, we beg to advise that our S.S. "ASIAN" arrived at Hong Kong

at midnight on the 21st instant.

CLAIM: Supplementing our Claim submitted on the

21st instant, we now find that an additional 55 Tons of Coal were burned on the trip Hong Kong/Pascadores/Hong Kong, over what we previously estimated, and this will require to be added to our previous claim.

This extra Coal consumption was due to the very bad weather experienced, and the Japanese Officers on board, insisting on driving the vessel at full speed when in ballast causing the engines to race badly, which also resulted in one Main Condenser discharge pipe being badly damaged, and requiring renewal.

The Captain also reports that the Japanese Naval crew placed on board the "ASIAN" removed from the ship certain ship's stores, foodstuffs and personal effects of the Officers and crew of the "ASIAN", and for which a claim has been made on us as Owners by those concerned for compensation.

Detailed lists covering these losses, and certified

by the Master are attached.

We also have an additional claim from Haiphong for

HK$186.37 for expenses incurred by the Police and Customs
